Carbis Bay Wedding Photography
Leah and George threw one of my favourite weddings of 2023 I think! That is an absolutely massive claim, as I have photographed some seriously insane weddings this year (I know I say this every year and must seem a bit like a stuck record, but everyone seemed to be absolutely going for it this year!!). But Leah and Georges Carbis Bay wedding was such a classy, bold and fun affair that it will always stick quite firmly in my memory!
Leah and George had their whole day at the very epic, Carbis Bay Estate and had both the ceremony and reception in the Ugly Butterfly, which if you’ve never been I would definitely recommend. It’s a beautiful venue right on the Carbis Bay Estate, fronted by the beach. The food is incredible and it has some of the most amazing views of Carbis Bay.
Let me just preface this day by saying that there was so much going on, which you see in the photos as well, which is probably what made it one of the funnest weddings to photograph, that and the fact that Leah and George are both very lovely, also helps!
Leah got ready at Carbis Bay with all her bridesmaids in one of the lodges. I love walking in on the morning of the wedding and you can almost tell straight away by the vibe in the room where everyone is getting ready just to how the day will go. From the moment I walked in I knew it was going to be pretty epic. Everyone was super friendly, super excited and super nervous which is always a good thing! That and the room was bathed in beautiful sunlight which managed to stay around for the whole day meant I knew we were in for something special.
Leah and George chose to get married in Te Ugly Butterfly, which has the most amazing views and is decorated so well with dried flowers hanging from the ceilings. The ceremony was so cute and there were so many lovely moments, especially when Leah walked in. It was just a magical moment and both Leah and George were in tears, completely overcome with emotion. The whole ceremony was just beautiful to witness.
I think we should have the fact that everyone had gone all out when dressing up, which is usually the opposite when it’s a beach wedding and a bit more casual, however Leah told me this was the theme of the wedding, to dress up to the nines and everybody looked absolutely amazing!
We managed to get down onto the beach, which even though it was the middle of summer we still managed to carve out a few spots with knowing the background have a little walk down by the shore. This then led to 1 of my favourite photos, I think from the wedding. The photo in question is Leah and George walking down by the shoreline, and their local chap was walking past in a Speedo’s and completely managed to crash the photos. Probably one of my favourite photos from the wedding just cracks me up every time I see it because Leah’s face is an absolute picture!!
We were treated to some of the funniest and most embarrassing (in the right way!!) speeches I’ve heard in a very long time. Everyone is actually cracked out and what makes me laugh so much when looking back at these photos now it is how much everyone is holding the head in their hands and completely creased up with laughter. In chuckling to myself just writing this.
We were even lucky enough to get down on the beach after the speeches to be treated to a little bit of a golden light. It is always such a good idea to try and get some photos at sunset if possible, I knew this was Leah and George wanted so I grabbed them not long after speeches before, as I knew the sun would be dropping down beneath the high cliffs at Carbis Bay so that they didn’t miss out.
The dancefloor was actually packed for the whole evening, which is a massively good sign of a super fun wedding. Their first dance was very cute the dancefloor was absolutely packed afterwards with some of the funniest dance moves ever. I absolutely loved being Carbis Bay wedding photographer for Leah and George. I’m very lucky to be a recommended supplier there and I cannot wait to be back there photographing more lovely weddings soon!
